Which is the difference between contest rank and artwork popularity?

At the beginning of every season a new contest starts and at its end the best artwork of each category is awarded.
Besides votes from the contest, artworks can be simply seen and put in users' favourites, also these elements contribute to set out its popularity.

Score

Artworks rank position depend on their score made during auditions and contest.
Score is not only a votes sum it considers other elements such as:

votes value
number of different members that votes
"out of context" notifications

All these parameters let score increase but also decrease (for example for a significant number of "out of context" notification).

Popularity

Artwork popularity instead is a value that does not depend on sesonal contest, but measures, during the whole year, how much the artwork is known in the network.
Parameters used to calculate popularity are:

MoonAir's diffusion in the specific network
members partecipation level
artwork collected penalties
artwork interest level in that network (included visualizations only)

It's important to remeber that popularity degree is comparable among different networks indipendently from how many users they have.
So popularity does not give an indication of the number of users interested in an artwork, but instead of how much that artwork is appreciated in the network.
